Fondation de l’Athlète d’Excellence du Québec – Saputo Grant

I am very honored to have received a grant in support of academic and athletic success from Saputo, with the Fondation de l’Athlète de l’Excellence du Québec, for the second consecutive year! A big thanks to them both and Triathlon Québec, here is the event summarized below (taken from the Triathlon Québec website):

The 19-year-old Vaudreuil-Dorion native had an excellent season to close his junior years. His performances and efforts would be rewarded by Saputo, who supports him for the second consecutive year, as well as the Fondation de l’Athlète de l’Excellence du Québec (FAEQ). A big thank you to these important partners and congratulations Xavier!

Here is an resumé of Xavier’s journey in 2014 followed by the statement issued by the Foundation.

Crowned North American Champion Junior in Sarasota in March, a few weeks later he took the 4th place at Pan American Junior Championships in Dallas. He then won, a few weeks after, a silver medal at a National Junior Series race in Saskatchewan before finishing fourth at the Canadian Junior Championships in Magog. The next day, at the same event, he contributed to the gold medal in Team Quebec’s Mixed Relay. Later in the season, the protégé of coach Kyla Rollinson finished 9th at the Junior World Championships in Edmonton on August 29, a great performance and a great improvement over his 18th position at last year’s World Championships. Xavier finally concluded his season in France, where he took part in some French Grand Prix races, where we find a density similar some World Triathlon Series (WTS). He notably achieved 20th place at the final race disputed in Nice.

Montreal, October 21, 2014 – The Foundation for Athletic Excellence Quebec (FAEQ) and Saputo have today announced the names of the 41 student-athletes who shared a total of $ 134,000 in grants. Twenty-one recipients were awarded a grant for academic excellence and 20 others received a grant to support the academic and athletic success. This initiative is included in a five-year partnership with the FAEQ for total support of Saputo ranging to one million dollars.

Mr. Claude Chagnon, President of the FAEQ, declared: “Saputo has the advantage of supporting hopeful, very young student athletes and follow them until they emerge on the national and international stage by reaching the Excellence status. Moreover, among the 41 recipients this year, 28 of them are supported by the company for a second year, some getting a fifth consecutive Saputo grant. This shows a great sign of trust and loyalty to the young people who go through all sorts of challenges in reconciling their training, competitions and their studying success all at the same time. ”
